ABSTRACT

Thomas, Bishop of Olena, Vicar Apostolic of the London District, has issued the following circular “to the Clergy and Faithful of the London District:” The late murderous attempt of an assassin upon the life of our beloved Queen merits our execration: the considerate benevolence of Her Majesty, in guarding the lady who would have attended her from the anticipated danger, excites a deep feeling of respect in our bosoms; and the providential preservation of her sacred person from the meditated outrage demands the devout expression of our thanksgiving to Almighty God. Respect and affection for our Sovereign unite with duty in causing the hymn of gladness to resound in our temples, before the Altar of the Immaculate Lamb of God, that our grateful thankfulness may find acceptance through His merits. If the Almighty, by the mouth of the Prophet Jeremy, exhorted the people of God to pray for Babylon, the land of their captivity.
