ABSTRACT

We present a case study of one tutor, T9, in Chapter 8. The case study analyzed T9’s use of tutoring strategies in four conferences, two taking place in the writing center and two from a WID program business course. Conferences in each location included one with a familiar student and one with an unfamiliar student. Comparisons indicated differences in the types and frequencies of tutoring strategies T9 used. For example, she used more shows of concern for unfamiliar students and more incidences of reading aloud with familiar students and more explaining and demonstrating for the student from the WID class. She also used more responding-as-a-reader-or-listener strategies in the writing center than in the WID conferences.
