ABSTRACT
There is a sort of return to metaphysics; an admission that general ideas and principles give some glimpses of extramental reality. On all sides there is manisfestation of this renewal of objectivism. The theories of art will experience a trend in new directions. The philosophy of art is being newly clarified, and various indications show that a return to objectivism is on the eve of being accomplished. Voices rise up in France and in Germany to react against tyrannical psychologism and to put back in its place the objective factor. The investigation is worth the trouble, for we must not be satisfied with showing the harm of subjectivism in order to establish the truth of artistic objectivism. The contemporary forms of artistic subjectivism exaggerate the role of the impression of art. Each one of them contains a kernel of truth.
