ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a framework in order to understand the role innovation has in sustainability. The sustainability literature too often focuses on how companies do things (i.e. visions, processes, reporting) rather than what they do (i.e. their products or services). The book shows that leading companies are now using sustainability insight as source of innovation. Sustainability will also increasingly be used as a filter by organisations as they seek to select the innovation with the greatest chance of success. Innovation and sustainability are becoming more closely aligned and both are essential for business survival and future prosperity. The book considers management to be a technology as it was capable of profound changes in attitudes, values and behaviour. This is a worthy ambition for sustainability.
