It was not until after companies experienced long-term scarcity during World War II that procurement became a managerial rather than clerical function. With the forces of globalization and consolidation, procurement
became a science.25 In the last 20 years, political instability, the competitive environment and technological advances have had dramatic impacts on procurement practices.26 Natural resource depletion is earmarked as the next wave to hit procurement.
