The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a membership organisation of 164 national standard-setting bodies. ISO oversees thousands of standards in a wide range of topics, from environment and quality. The ISO 14000 series is a
family of standards for creating environmental management systems (EMSs; for a definition of an EMS, see Box 29.1).
