ABSTRACT

There was a time in early civilizations when Caring explicitly drove human interactions. In past human communities, not cluttered with the distractions of modernity, actions were directed toward taking care of each other, often because cooperation was the only way to survive. Few technological artifacts stood between people's actions and their intended results. Interactions between people and their surrounding environment were direct. Unfortunately the present cultural story of what it means to be human diverts us from Caring. Especially in the United States, have become extremely narcissistic. Authentic individuals act out of Care for themselves, other human beings, the rest of the material world, and also the non-world of spirituality. It means that one is free to choose the actions that create identity and relationships, within those real, material limitations. Companies can do so much more if they begin to rethink their so-called human resources strategies.
