ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book deals with the assumption that the reader is interested in the sustainability discussion and wants to familiarize him or herself with the basics of the discussion in a logical and integrated way. It explores how the concern for the three specific dimensions, such as economic growth, environmental protection, and equitable social progress, of sustainable organizations developed over time. The book highlights the most important instruments and tools at the disposal of organizations that wish to set sustainability principles at the core of their vision, mission, and strategy. It focuses on the importance of the leadership of self and the critical role of the third dimension. The book aims to address at least some of the weaknesses inherent in a fragmented approach in the debate on sustainability.
