ABSTRACT

A month before the anticipated frenzy of Y2K, a group of European business leaders met with the Dalai Lama in Amsterdam to consider if 21st-century enterprises have to choose between compassion and competition. Some time in 2000 I received a transcript of that discussion from a young activist of the Tibetan-Indian community. At the time it seemed like a stray and rare reflective exercise. It was not enough to make cooperation and compassion a major focus of this exploration.
