ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors believe that Sustainable enterprise economy (SEE) Change enterprises have the potential to change that situation, but to do so will require a mindset, approach and sense of purpose very different to that of many of large organisations. They also believe SEE Change will demand of its leaders and entrepreneurs. The nature of SEE Change enterprises—collaborative, blended value bottom-lines encompassing social/ecological goals and benefits, sometimes with a profit orientation and boundary spanning—also means that future leaders need well-developed comfort with ambiguity. SEE Change enterprise problems are often 'messy', requiring non-linear, collaborative and design-driven solutions. SEE Change enterprises are all about creating new vision and hope—developing a narrative or myth about the possibility that humankind can create a sustainable future. Since 'business' is likely to be unusual in SEE Change, the change process is an important element of establishing any SEE Change enterprise.
