ABSTRACT

First published in 1976, Shell's General Business Principles constitute a living document that has evolved over time. The Principles are derived from values of honesty, integrity and respect for people. The Principles cover a very wide range of issues, including economic principles, business integrity, political activities, health, safety, environment, community and competition. According to Mark Wade of Shell: the Principles represent the magnetic north of the company, giving the employees a benchmark on what the company stands for and making clear the behaviour expected of all Shell employees in their business dealings large or small wherever Shell operates around the world. Shell's Principles are grounded in management systems. Shell is active in an array of corporate responsibility initiatives and organisations, including, among others, the United Nations Global Compact the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights and the Business Principles for Countering Bribery.
