ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors look first at the measurement and evaluation (M&E) of Community Involvement, and then at how managers report their results. They aim to help managers to feel comfortable with M&E as a planning and management tool. Using a simple, easy-to-follow eight-stage process, M&E can be fully embedded as a standard part of their Community Involvement program management. Based on specific Key Performance Indicators, managers can set the output and outcomes targets that they want to reach year on year, manage their program accordingly, and then measure and evaluate to prove the tangible societal and business results of their Community Involvement. Reporting on Corporate Community Involvement activities is part of overall Corporate Responsibility (CR) and Sustainability reporting. One core purpose of CR and Sustainability reporting is to build corporate reputation among stakeholders, to inform stakeholder dialogue, and to gain and maintain stakeholder trust.
