ABSTRACT

The concept of 'societal learning and change' is drawn out of the cases. It is not a concept that any of the participants in the cases had in mind or even knew about. The people in the cases can be considered SLC pioneers working entrepreneurially by trial and error. They drew on diverse personal experiences, with little organisational development and design knowledge, and even less of large-systems change knowledge and skills. However, from their experiences some lessons become obvious. There is no need to repeat their errors, and these pioneers' work can guide future practitioners.
