ABSTRACT

A theory has no value unless it can be applied. Even though exceptions make the rule, a commonly applicable methodology will permit the concepts of Zero Emissions and UpSizing to be implemented whenever and wherever: to schools, hospitals, housing and industry. UpSizing happens immediately when an industry has decided to target zero emissions. Zero Emissions is the final objective, UpSizing is the direct and immediate result. The objective of the Zero Emissions methodology is, first, to find ways of minimising the input needed in the main process, and then of achieving a maximum level of output by targeting a total throughput. The road to Zero Emissions will be long, but the first steps—the steps towards UpSizing—can be taken. The ideal route towards UpSizing, generating overall a much larger volume of products and services, depends on the identification of an ideal unit size.
