ABSTRACT

The business school Chief Operating Officer will become a Chief Opportunity Officer. This person will be responsible for exploring opportunities both within and outside of the school. Businesses will increasingly be closed-loop. They will manage the entire life-cycle of their products in a sustainable way, from the design to manufacturing and all the way to the end of life. Business schools will also operate as closed-loop systems and their campus will generate no waste. The business school campus will be planted with native fruit trees and other edible plants. Yearly harvest time will be a festival that sees students, staff and alumni come back to campus to pick the fruits. University campuses are complex environments that require a large amount of energy for lighting, computers, technology, air conditioning and heating. The additional bonus: this provides a live case study for students about what is possible for them to bring into their own workplaces in the future.
