ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides the reader with the insights needed to make the breakthrough, and provides them with the foundations of a path forward, to a more organizationally sustainable future. It focuses on establishing an awareness of how the fundamental shift in our understanding of knowledge creation and the development of the scientific method facilitated the Industrial Revolution. The book covers the twentieth-century origins and development of modern business practices. It looks into how systems thinking have been brought into the field of business and organizational management. The book describes what a sustainable organization looks like and how it leverages the interdependence within and across its industry and supply chain. It also looks at what needs to be accomplished before the organization can begin the transformation.
