ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an extensive review of peacemaking interventions by business that is proposed in the Business and Peace field. Peace Business is based on concepts derived from Peace and Conflict Studies and is heavily focused on deep global transformation towards more equitable and sustainable economic and political governance. A deeper conceptualisation of corporate peacemaking interventions is gained from cross-pollinating ideas from the expert fields of Peace and Conflict Studies, Conflict Resolution, Diplomacy and Peace Psychology. While the Corporate Peacemaking school proposes potential interventions that business can apply to support peacemaking, more in-depth analysis of how corporate actors should undertake them and the activities that will comprise these interventions is needed. Peacemaking can have a powerful impact on reducing violence, whether applied as prevention or during violence. Underpinning a corporate role in the coordination of peacemaking efforts is companies' world-class organisational, communications and logistical expertise.
