ABSTRACT
At the 2013 GreenBiz VERGE Conference, sustainability guru Joel Makower posited that the term "cleantech" is losing its usefulness. New energy, building, and transportation technologies will make our cities and buildings smarter, more energy efficient, more resilient, and interactive with us in ways we haven't even imagined yet. Cleantech Group publishes a database called i3 that sorts cleantech companies into 18 different sectors ranging from energy generation technologies and fuels to energy efficiency, storage, smart grid, transportation, recycling, water, and even agriculture technologies. The clean energy space is evolving so quickly it is difficult to summarize all the key issues and trends in just a few paragraphs. There are several good clean energy primers and market outlook reports available online. There are also career guides devoted specifically to renewable energy industry jobs. Expect the dramatic changes that are happening in the utility industry to have ripple effects that present many new opportunities, and challenges, for different cleantech businesses throughout the entire electricity sector.
