ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides some of the key points which are potentially relevant to their respective interests, beginning with those trainers in professional bodies and other agencies whose role it is to provide the organized resources for continuing professional development. It explores some reasons to review requirements and focuses on the existing values and practices of the practitioners who are expected to conform to them. The book outlines a range of social and cognitive factors which have impinged to greater or lesser degrees on the several professions under study. It suggests that aspects of professional cultures could be illuminated through a study of the procedures used to maintain capability in the face of change. The book describes those who have an academic or scholarly interest in professionalism as a field of enquiry in its own right.
