ABSTRACT
To occupy oneself with politics means to occupy oneself with conflict. The theory of politics is not one of harmony. And that repulses people because politics is perceived as a struggle and seen as "dirty" due to its combative techniques. The withdrawal from politics is the result of all notions of the possibility of perfect harmony. The dualism characteristic of late antiquity that, in light of the imminent Kingdom of God, recommended avoiding the realm of politics, the "City of the World," is an expression of this tendency that stems from the need for harmony.
