Introduction

Within my recent writing upon the triad Comedy/God/Devil I pursue a goal somewhat overlapping that of Walter Wink, although with differ­ ent points of departure, procedure, and outcome. Of late, I have had quite a bit to say on the first and the third of the variables listed. The volume before the reader concentrates upon the second one-but is God a variable?—though with aid from the first and the third.
