ABSTRACT

In 1954, the Eisenhower Administration had succeeded in overthrowing a leftist regime in Guatemala by launching an invasion of Guatemalan exiles from neighboring Honduras. With the Castro government in Cuba veering toward communism, plans were drawn up to launch an invasion of Cuba from Central America. When it came into office, the Kennedy Administration continued the planning and preparation. Finally launched in April 1961, the invasion failed totally. There were mistakes of planning and of execution. An additional reason for the debacle was brought to light in the following article, published in March 1974 in the 7rop/c magazine supplement of the Miami Herald.
