ABSTRACT

The terrier was to remain a dog small enough to enter any earth or drain large enough to hold a fox. Size was not desired… To go to earth, he had to be neither too heavy nor too tall… To win the battles under ground, he needed a strong constitution, and one able to withstand wet, cold, and fatigue. To win battles, courage was necessary, and with it the power to bear extreme punishment, without flinching or losing heart.
