ABSTRACT
Throughout those parts of tropical regions where a heavy and reliable rainfall is experienced throughout most of the year, a plant formation-type of remarkably constant structure is found under undisturbed conditions. It has often been referred to as 'equatorial forest' but since almost identical communities extend into regions which are far away from the equator, this term is obviously undesirable. The term 'tropical rain forest' is much more appropriate.
