ABSTRACT

By 1940 the total population of the country reached 194.1 million, but the rate of population increase in 1940 (Table 1.2) was 13.2%o, which by the beginning of 1941 yields a population of 196. 7 million, as indicated in published data. But according to Table 3.1, in the beginning of 1950 there were 178.5 million people. Thus the negative difference amounts to 18.2 million in nine years, including the five postwar years, but official sources claim that during the war only 20 million people died.
