ABSTRACT
I have used only official publications, but in view of the fact that I am a physicist and not an expert demographer or historian, it is possible that I have been unaware of some of the available literature. Consequently, some subtle points may have been overlooked. I have attempted to analyze only data that can be understood without specialized training. However, contrary to official Soviet statistics, I have not concealed the methods and techniques used to derive my findings.
