ABSTRACT
The stronger was written in 1889, when Strindberg was still writing plays for Antoine’s Théâtre Libre, and hoping to form an experimental theatre of his own in Stockholm. This project was not realised until 1907, when The stronger had its première with one of Strindberg’s new Chamber Plays, The burned site. Since then it has been performed often and in many countries, and is acclaimed as a jewel among monologues.
