ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is a paean to unity, sung by a skeptic. He knows that beauty can deceive and that the true unity can be other than one's most superb vision of it. The greatest have made mistakes, and the more personal the enthusiasm that an idea evokes in a person who believes he is its creator, the more likely is it that the idea is corrupted by mistaken unconscious assumptions. This pervasive irony haunts all human thought, including these pages. Amid today's confusion no man would attempt it if he experienced any hesitation or freedom of choice, in fact unless something was compelling him to think and write as he did. Every Sunday throughout the West countless parsons and priests open their sacred book and, claiming transcendental inspiration, promise their flock the blessing of God provided they truly seek Him.
