ABSTRACT

From 1929 to 1934 Mr. Becker had obtained a few odd jobs but in order to exist the family had been forced to borrow $700 from their insurance company, $1,000 from relatives, and an additional amount from friends. Mr. and Mrs. Becker quarrel about unemployment. Mrs. Becker stated that her husband is not working, but is continuing to look for work. Mrs. Becker stated that her husband expects this to be a fairly permanent job, but asked, when she reported it, that the case closing be deferred for a short time to allow some of the earnings to be used for dental and clothing needs. Mr. Becker is not eligible for Unemployment Insurance Benefits since he was employed by a small businessman who had no other workers. Mr. and Mrs. Becker occupy the bedroom; Charles has a folding bed in the living room.
