ABSTRACT

Mr Mahoney has had no regular employment since 1930. Mrs. Mahoney completed grammar school in Ireland. Mr. Mahoney's income was never really "steady" because his work was largely seasonal. Mr. Mahoney had always liked his work, his wife had liked taking care of her home and was able to manage economically so that the salary was usually enough to carry them over slack seasons. Mrs. Mahoney is a frail, slender woman who looks much older than her husband. Mr. Mahoney is working as a cement mason on WPA, earning $82 a month. The Mahoneys believe that Home Relief is necessary and that it is administered as well as possible. In spite of Mr. Mahoney's age, he believes that there will be some opportunity for him in regular industry should business improve. He thinks his chances for employment are good because of his wide contacts from past work experience.
