ABSTRACT

(These were all “interludes, “intended to comment on while breaking up, the otherwise heavy-going argumer of the three papers mentioned in the introduction to th book. The first was to have been in an article, “The Violent Imagination.” The second is from “Conscious ness out of Context,” published in The Search for Society. This contains a critical look at Daniel Bell’s The Coming of Post-Industrial Society, hence the epigraph. It may look like free verse but it isn’t. It is intended to sound like a literal translation of a choru from a Greek tragedy, hence “first stasimon.” The last one is from ‘Inhuman Nature and Natural Rights.” introduction again.)
