Louis Marshall, from whose Public Papers, edited by Charles Reznikoff, the following selection is taken, was so eminent a legal figure in his generation that serious consideration was given to him, we are told, as the first Jew to be appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court of the United States before that honor went to Louis D. Brandeis.
