ABSTRACT

The growing up he had accomplished on board the Ronaldson brought him home from Whampoa Beach a formidable young man, doing whatever he set out to do with an intense drive and relish, however little he knew, beyond immediate ambitions, where he was going. The way he had now of going about his purposes, with a forgetful, wholehearted effort, attracted the respectful attention of immediate family, uncles, and friends. He groped in his understanding, but he pushed ahead doing one thing after another.
