ABSTRACT

The Project Haven field managers were Richard E. Jaffe and David L. Ellison from the Intelligence Division, and Gerald Z. Applebaum from Audit. They gathered the Castle Bank material in order to shape the many-linked investigations and eventual prosecutions. Castle catered to the financial needs of racketeer Morris Klein-man. Alert to Morris Kleinman’s interests, Castle shifted his money around for his benefit. An unexpected complication occurred around this time, causing Castle employees a great deal of worry. In 1972, Mercantile Bank went into a financial tailspin, making it imperative to move certain accounts out of Mercantile and into Castle before they were wiped out. Castle’s action encompassed major real estate projects, film and recording ventures, and a variety of other undertakings. Sally Woodruff was convinced the relationship between I.C.L.R. and Castle was absolutely fundamental, almost as significant as its connection to Mercantile Bank.
