ABSTRACT

In the salvage shop, pickers and sorters would do the final work of distinguishing what could be used for which purpose and how it could be sold. For its part, Golden Gate Disposal Company, working the downtown office buildings, might have tons of paper and cardboard, but even one sheet of carbon paper mixed in it would disqualify a bale. To deal with this, the two scavenger companies organized another subsidiary-in partnership with the small engineering firm (Easley and Brassy) that had traditionally carried out the cover part of the fill and cover operations at the tidelands location. Genially, Lenny will tell a visitor to the Palazzo, "When women's clubs come to see our innovation, we generally put perfume in the spray." Of course, they do not use perfume; besides it is the dust and the noise at II Palazzo that is most objectionable, not the odors.
