ABSTRACT

Case Study 5: Dan He made the noise about every ten seconds, a loud shrill sound not unlike the yipping bark of a small dog. To anyone near by, the piercing noise was startling, almost painful. It was typically accompanied by various facial tics and sometimes by the flexion of his entire body. This tic-like noise was so prominent that his other behavioral problems and the issues of conflict in the family seemed insignificant. In fact, Dan had been referred to us because the noise-making behavior had thwarted a variety of other facilities in their attempts to help him and his family.
