ABSTRACT
It was mid-morning, July 17, 1967 when Heidi was admitted to the Wisconsin Children's Treatment Center with the accepted referral diagnosis of childhood autism. Heidi. was accompanied by her father, mother, and two elder brothers, all of whom reluctantly and painfully complied with our request to make the separation quick. Father and sons displayed their tears; mother ulcerated hers.
