ABSTRACT
“Forced” busing, abortion, the denial of aid to parochial schools, and the denial of freedom to jailed Teamster leader James Hoffa were four of the matters Presidential aide Charles Colson stanchly opposed. Colson was the architect of Nixon’s “new majority,” and more than anyone helped the President turn away from the idealistic “new alignment of ideas” to the practical realignment of voting groups based on self-interest.
