The Campaign that Never Was

Playwright Arthur Miller, in an unnoticed speech in support of George McGovern entitled “Politics as Theatre,” cued the closing curtain for his chosen candidate with this line: “We are not casting the Moses to lead us out of the desert, but the chief officer of a bank in which we are all depositors.”
