ABSTRACT
After the Samuel B. Roberts (DD823), my next Navy billet was as a battalion Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer—NGLO—attached to the Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. As with all other billets not connected directly with ships and sea duty, this was a poor assignment for anyone who wanted to make a career in the Navy. But it was fine for me.
