ABSTRACT
People who have suffered badly from boredom say that it is one of the worst of afflictions. Solitary confinement in prison is essentially a painfully boring situation; there are no outside stimuli to excite a person. Giving us the means to lessen boredom surely is one of the great benefits of modern communications for many people, especially the bedridden.
