ABSTRACT

contrary to my upbeat impression that phage research was on the move, Max had left the Bloomington meeting with the downbeat feeling that the group’s research had lost momentum. So when, for the first time in many years, Max was not going to spend the summer in Cold Spring Harbor, because his wife, Manny, was expecting their second child, he arranged to have a few Phage Group stalwarts come out to Pasadena from back east for a month or so of brainstorming and dreaming up crucial experiments. They included Salva Luria and his minions, Renato Dulbecco and Jim Watson.
