ABSTRACT

A charismatic movement is a revolution that radically alters the faltering common symbolic towards the creation of a new culture. The Muhammadan charismatic movement as a cultural revolution consists of the Qur'anic stipulation that "it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you; and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you". Muhammad established his charismatic authority, legitimated through the prophetic relationship to Allah. The Weberian formulation of "charismatic authority", by definition, is a mode of "authority" and, as such, has particular stipulations of command and obedience which could occur only within the structure of a moral demand system. The Muslim community, the aggregate composition of individual Muslims with rights and responsibilities, is the sole source of authority and legitimacy for Muslims in the Kharijite frame of their collective mind.
