ABSTRACT

The Iranian and Shiite terror activities can be divided into four main categories kidnapping of hostages, hijacking/detonating airplanes, detonating explosive devices and car bombs and assassinations. An examination of arenas chosen for the perpetration of Iranian/Shiite attacks indicates that 190 attacks were carried out within the areas of Muslim states. It would appear that Muslim states are a relatively convenient arena for Iranian terror activity due to the existence of infrastructures consisting of local collaborators and radical sponsor organizations that perpetrate the attacks or assist the Iranian entities in their perpetration. The Iranian Islamic Guidance Ministry, which acts to cultivate ties with Muslim communities abroad, served as a camouflage for activities of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry, and independently promoted the establishment of an attack infrastructure. Explosive devices and car bombs were among the main attack means used by Shiite/Iranian terror entities during the review period.
