ABSTRACT
In 4YRBK97 the Hemispheric Left (HL) has been described as a loose association of amorphous Marxist and militant ML left organizations. The HL chief is Fidel Ruz Castro, his hemispheric organization made up of Marxist Leninist (ML) terrorist and "ex" terrorist groups, of left political parties ranging from the Mexican Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) of Cuauhtemoc Cardenas to the Brazilian Workers Party (PT) of Luiz Ignacio "Lula" da Silva. This chapter considers castro's relevant activities during this year, and discusses his HL then brought up to date and terrorist and terrorist-related activity in the hemisphere by country with an important exception. In YRBK97 and YRBK98 ML terrorism in Colombia was treated together with that in the other LA nations in the chapter allocated to the HL. For, whatever proves to be the final outcome, the HL has made substantial advances in the last few years.
