ABSTRACT

One of the arguments that various researchers repeatedly put for ward about Israel is that although it is in a permanent situation of war and various tensions and paradoxes are embedded within the relations of the civil and the military, it has succeeded in maintain ing a democratic way of life and its army has never threatened the political realm. The argument is usually based on a certain set of assumptions. By disclaiming them and adducing others, this article arrives at different conclusions concerning the place of the military and military solutions within Israel’s society and politics.
