ABSTRACT

This chapter details two couples, a single woman, and a divorced mother. These respondents adopted a total of six children. Both couples adopted two children each. The single and divorced women adopted one child each. Only one of the respondents, Donna, adopted siblings, both children at the same time. Their experiences after the child or children they adopted entered their families were not idyllic at the start and, for some, life is still not easy. Referring back to the analogy, these are the people who arrived in an unknown part of Paris. After some tough going, Frances and Grace seem to have arrived in the heart of Paris. Irene and Janet have discovered that the road they are on is still filled with bumps and detours. One of the three couples adopted two children. The other two couples and the single woman each adopted one child.
