ABSTRACT

You are the CEO of an international manufacturing firm considering major opportunities in the United States, South America, and China. Your strengths are in the American markets, but the less stable Asian market is growing more rapidly. New, fiercer competitors are emerging on all fronts and pursuing one opportunity may foreclose the others. You are under considerable pressure from investors and your board to continue increasing earnings per share, while growing revenue and improving margins. You have received critical input from your top managers representing various functions and regions, but you fear their positions may too strongly reflect their parochial interests. Nevertheless, you will need their commitment to carry out whatever is decided. What do you do?
