ABSTRACT

Numerous and complex issues face today’s early childhood professionals. All of these issues reflect the society we now live in and all will affect you in some way as you enter the world of teaching. This chapter presents several of these. Some issues, such as more or less structure in curriculum and instruction, relate directly to the curriculum and the planning that goes into it. Others, such as schooling from what age, might not have such a direct impact on everyday teaching but could change the quality and quantity of available resources or influence the knowledge children bring with them to their learning experiences.
