ABSTRACT

The role of cognition in organizations has been seen differently, depending on whether

one views organizations as systems of information or systems of meaning. This book is a

collection of the latest theoretical and empirical research on cognition in organizations

from an international group of scholars. The work presented in this volume has its roots

in two prongs of cognition research: the computational and the interpretivist perspectives.

We did not charge the authors with the task of integrating these two perspectives. Thus, it

is especially noteworthy when viewing this collection as a whole the extent to which it
